Thanks for the detail. In what way, may I ask? Do you not think that Julia did a good job? Or Domingo, perhaps? Was the directing bad? Was the choice of scenery bad? If you're going to be a critic, don't just make a stupid, meaningless, statement like "This sucks."

I just saw this adaptation and it's great. This carmen is as hot as hell... she's so sexualy charged... heck one understands Don Jose... XD

For all who are wondering how to get it, do as I did. It's a BitTorrent. But it's also about 2.3 GB, so it'll take a while.

I used the site btjunkie which is followed by org. I searched for either Carmen or Bizet. Don't remember, but you'll find it somewhere!

Yes, it's the music of the film "carmen" song by placido domingo et julia miginez jonhson. it's a triple CD, you can olso find the film in DVD. It's a great moment! trust me!

Ok I agreee to disagree. I think that Julia Miginez here is the impersonation of "Carmen" herself. Just superb ! A delight.

Of course Maria Callas did a magnificent interpretation but La Callas never performed Carmen in a full Opera performance because she knew herself that she could not be a real Carmen. "know thyself" as the old great great Philosopher Plato used to say and Maria Callas had true knowledge of herself that is why she was such a great artist.

you definatley seem to know more about this than me :) Maria Callas was just the first i ever heard perform it, that is probably why i like it better. i'd really like to see THIS version in whole.

The best Carmen is Tereza Berganza in a 80s version led by Claudio Abbado on DG including Placido Domingo. This is surlely the best version of the whole opera with the late 50s Sir Thomas Beecham one. Here the interpretation is just average. However I don't know if there is a DVD of the Abbado version.

Carmen is sung in French. Bizet, the composer, was French himself.

"L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" means "Love is a rebellious bird."

Why is the key so high? It's so weird hearing it different...I still prefer the lower one, but it's interesting. I like it. :)

I'm pretty sure it's a half step higher than originally written. I'm used to starting on a D, and she starts on an Eb. Not a big change, though.

Migenes-Johnson is an excellent Carmen. Unlike many sopranos she looks right as well as sings well.

She's not the best Carmen, she IS Carmen.

She's more shrill than I like to hear in a Carmen. But hey, her performance is still pretty good over all.
